Return to Love

Just as with my interiors, I have to admit my preference in gardens is towards texture and peace. Of course, I appreciate the riot of colour that flowers can offer, the variety of visual and sensory stimulation...but my favourite gardens are a kind of structured wilderness....so, recently, my love of gardening has been renewed. Old friends remember my beautiful garden, before the shop, and here in Ibiza some of you have visited my wild secret field where I just let everything be, on the whole (though have learned some new fruit tree pruning skills that seem to be working). In London for the past 15 years, I’ve been restricted to my, albeit lovely, roof terrace and little back bit dedicated to the robin. Our roof is full of black olives, figs, jasminoides, and ...nettles. I know. Yes, nettles. I like them. Recent commissions have brought me back outside. Full of love for my original sanctuary: the great and small outdoors. Nature, in all its challenging, and kindly, forms. So here are just a very few favourite plants. As my world adapts to this letting go of the old and the rebirth, along with everyone else, a slow transformation is taking place and someone up there is making it very clear that I will spend more time in nature. Of course, most of these plants are black or white or green. You didn’t expect red, did you? Olives, black tulips, tree peonies, guara, daisies ..oh, and my favourite quince. Much, much more to come. 🌿🕊🖤🙏🏻
