Still ethical designer Sophie Mason works with hand spun and woven Himalayan tribal wool produced once annually in the new year. When the weather is temperate up in the mountains the nomadic Bhutia tribe are farming and tending the sheep in high altitudes.During the colder months the sheep are brought down to lower levels; their wool is shorn, washed in the mountain streams, carded and spun ready for weaving. Once woven the wool cloth is trodden on in the streams to make it semi felted. As no chemical or machine process is involved in the making, the wool maintains it’s lanolin so the coats and jackets are naturally water repellent
